| Getting Connected to the Internet
So what the heck does that mean, you ask?? Well it's really quite simple. If you have followed
the instructions in setting up your dial up connection you are now ready to get connected!
There are a couple of different ways you can do this. Some people prefer to have a shortcut
on their desktop which they can double click to dial up. To add a shortcut of your dial up connection
to your desktop follow these instructions:
Windows 98
Click On My Computer
Click On Dial Up Networking
Right click on the dialer. (There will be an icon for make new connection and another for
the dialer you created, probably named ACS if you followed the instructions on this website.
Left Click on Create Short Cut
Click Yes at the dialog box that reads "Windows cannot create a shortcut here it needs to
place it on the desktop
Close Dial Up Networking and My Computer and find the shortcut on your desktop
You will probably need to type the username and password in the first time. Remember,
your username is the part BEFORE the @sign of your email address! Do NOT type in the entire
email address. Also, type username and password all lowercase.
Windows ME - 2000 and XP
Go to the Control Panel
Click On Dial Up Networking
Right click on the dialer. (There will be an icon for make new connection and another for
the dialer you created, probably named ACS if you followed the instructions on this website.
Left Click on Create Short Cut
Click Yes at the dialog box that reads "Windows cannot create a shortcut here it needs to

Close Dial Up Networking and My Computer and find the shortcut on your desktop

email address. Also, type username and password all lowercase.
Another way to get connected is to have your Internet Explorer web browser configured to bring up the
connect to dialog box on opening. To configure IE follow these directions.
Open Internet Explorer
Click On Tools
Click On Internet Options
Click On the Connections Tab
Make sure there is a check in Always dial my default connection
The process goes something like this. Think of your modem as an internal telephone. When you set up
the dialer you in affect told it to dial up ACS. Now when you click on connect, your modem will dial
the number to the ACS remote computer. You should see it verifying the username and password. It is
checking to confirm that what you typed matches what ACS has in the radius server database.
If they match it will connect you to the internet.
