Location: We’re located on the east side of the north bay of Dead Lake, just 3 miles South of Dent, MN, or 4 miles west of Richville, MN, on Otter Tail County Highway 44.  Perham and Ottertail (city) are each about 12 miles from the resort; Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes about 30 miles each; Fargo, ND, about 70 miles, and Minneapolis/St. Paul about 200 miles using US Hwy 10 or I-94.

Facilities: Sunset Bay Resort is nestled among 15+ wooded acres.  Amenities include over 500 feet of clean sandy shore, a buoyed swimming area with raft and water sports, beachside playground equipment, horseshoe pits, croquet, bocce balls, volleyball, basketball, and an indoor game room with air hockey, books, magazines, toys, and table games.

Cabins: Our cabins all face the lake, are about 90 feet from the lakeshore, and are spaced for privacy.  They have fully equipped kitchens and private bathrooms with showers (bring your own bath & kitchen towels).  They are comfortably furnished and carpeted in all areas except bathrooms and kitchens.  Most bedrooms have one double bed and closet, dresser or shelves, and each living area has a full size futon (we furnish all bedding).  Picnic tables, charcoal grills, lakeside fire pits also are provided for each cabin.  Do not bring firewood, unless you purchase it locally - we include reasonable amounts of firewood in the cabin rental.  Cabin rates include launch & dock space for one boat per cabin or one resort fishing boat (motor extra or bring your own).

Camping: Our campsites each have electric (30A), water hookups and fire pits.  Do not bring firewood - we include reasonable amounts of firewood in the campsite fee.  We can accommodate tents, pop-ups, pick-up campers, trailers, 5th-wheels, or motorhomes.  Restroom and shower facilities are provided, as well as access to all resort facilities.  Camping rates include boat launch and beach space for one boat per campsite.  Dock space may be rented separately, if available.

Note:  We have no seasonal camping sites.

Other: The office includes a store with a few grocery items, snacks, frozen treats, and souvenir items.  We also sell some tackle, ice, and boat gas & oil.  Coin-operated laundry facilities are available for guests.

Paddleboats, a canoe, a Fun Bug, life jackets (as available), and a fish cleaning facility are all available at no charge to guests.  Dock space, boats, motors, and a pontoon may be rented as demand permits.

The Lake: Dead Lake spans over 7,900 acres, with depths over 60 feet.  More than 80% of the lake has depth of 15 feet or less.  It offers over 36 miles of lakeshore and varied structure.  Dead Lake enjoys a reputation for excellent fishing for walleye, bass, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, and sunfish.  It is known as one of the best lakes for fall fishing in the area, and offers duck hunting opportunities as well.

The MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR) stocked walleye fry in 2001, 2003, and 2005 (approximately 3.2 million each year).  For more details about Dead Lake, visit the DNR’s Lakefinder and enter lake #56038300 or Dead Lake-Otter Tail County.

Area Activities: The surrounding area offers golfing, horseback trail rides, river tubing, movies, miniature golf, a community recreation center with indoor pool and super slide, the weekly Perham International Turtle Races and annual Turtle Fest in June, plus many antique and specialty shops.  There are churches of most denominations, and many places for dining and dancing.  Maplewood and Glendalough State Parks, and Inspiration Peak are not far from Sunset Bay, and there are many opportunities for viewing or photographing wildlife, especially birds and wildflowers.  Also nearby is Minnesota’s first official birding trail, the Pine to Prairie Trail, which spans 223 miles across northwestern Minnesota, from Warroad to Fergus Falls.  A Minnesota bird list is available, and we host many resident and migrating birds at our feeders.
